[Review for John Calvin's Institutes of the Christian Religion]

The sovereign God is hammered home by John Calvin and he did it convincingly with precise cross references from the Bible. Most cannot accept such hard truths fro God, Who has duly informed those who bother to read the Bible that in John 6:44 God will draw only those He has chosen for His kingdom to be drawn to Christ.

Calvinists - gotta love 'em.

John 6:44 God will draw only those He has chosen for His kingdom to be drawn to Christ.

So - no matter - God already knows who is going to heaven. If you aren't one of the chosen - tough luck.

He should all religious fundies (of any flavor) and whisk them away to some alternate fundie-verse where the kill each other & fap to Him all they want.

So, why bother being good? Let us all go on killing raping sprees. I mean, if we're already chosen to go to heaven, we don't need to do a damn thing to actually deserve that, right?

Don't you see anything wrong with your logic, sir/ma'am?

Then they're not very fucking convincing, are they? And how the hell even can his arguments be considered convincing when it is his own position which states that who will and won't believe and be saved is predetermined? To "convince" even one person would be to undermine the authority of god.

The bible is a highly suspect composite document that has been translated many times, and is completely unauthenticatable. (Is that a word?) "The bible says" is NEVER going to be a persuasive argument for ANYTHING. You can't make a five-course meal out of a lemon.

I've always found Calvinism both the most logical and the most terrifying form of Christianity. If god is really all-knowing, then by definition he must know where each person is going to end up. This, in turn, implies that free will does not exist. Glad I don't believe in any such nonsense.

@Lord Gibbon

Yep, I found this one while doing a college project, and actually read some of Calvin's book. It's pretty much one of the best and most logical accounts of the Bible and Christianity I've ever read, and thank God I don't believe in that. I've developed a fascination for it, in the same sense I'm intrigued by Scientology and other horrific religions.

Similarly, the interest I had, at one time, about Calvinism and hyper-Calvinists was the seemingly intellectually sound doctrinal structure positing an all-powerful god choosing to elect some to salvation and to let the rest burning in Hell.

Goomy pls

What does he do with the rest? Torture them?

Because that isn't good.
