Yes, but which god?
On his radio program today, Bryan Fischer speculated that the attack by radical Muslim terrorists on the French magazine Charlie Hebdo that killed twelve people may have been God's retribution for the magazine's blasphemy. Given that the magazine, in addition to mocking Islam and Muhammad, also had a long record of running satirical articles and cartoons about Christianity and Jesus, Fischer raised the possibility that this attack was punishment for the magazine's repeated violation of the commandment that "you shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain." "They made a career out of taking the name of God, the God of the Bible, the father of the Lord Jesus," said Fischer, who has made the case in the past that instituting anti-blasphemy laws in America was entirely feasible.

For once a Christian fundie admitting he pray to the same god than the Muslims, and that the only fundamental difference is the prophet thei profess to follow, from whom come all the other differences.
And what did Merabet to deserve to be shot by terrorists while laying wounded?
Blasphemy laws represent only one thing, religious laws over unbelievers. There's only one reason for the Holy Books or state laws to enforce such things, no it's not about offense, it's about the church making it illegal to speak against the church or it's myth in any way.
Kings used to have such laws, some Southern Sherrifs still think they can silence opposition with this ultimate power.
Why don't you people have a little faith? If it offends your God let him deal with it.
Canadiest: Agreed. It hasn't worked especially well in Ireland, either. The government keeps putting off having an official vote to banish it, but it isn't really enforced and non-christians continue to push for the vote.
Why does Bryan Fischer like being wrong about everything? Seriously, I can tell you why the attacks on Charlie Hebdo took place, and I don't need to violate Occam's Razor to do it. But the real question is, why the hell would anyone sincerely love and revere any entity if they truly believed this entity was as thin skinned as fundamentalists believe their god to be?
That sounds like the Bible's God, alright. He's annoyed about something so he makes some vague, far-fetched gesture involving collateral damage that no one but a lunatic-fringe fundamentalist would get, then kills the people who carried it out. And instead of doing it when the offense against Himself occurred, He waits and does it when the paper is disrespecting Mohammad.
This is the same God who stopped the sun instead of just killing the Amorites: He never does anything the simple way when He can come up with some convoluted Rube Goldberg alternative.
Charlie Hebdo is a disgustingly vile publication.
However, freedom of the press applies even to disgustingly vile publications.
"I disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it." -Commonly mis-attributed to Voltaire, but actually written by Evelyn Beatrice Hall.

You know, I never thought of this before: "you shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain". Empasis on your.
It's not my god, so on what basis, going by your own holy book, am I not allowed to insult him any which way I please?

That sounds like Muslim talk to me.
The word god is actually not a name and it does not belong to a particular being.[¹][³] Yahweh is a name, but Allah(the abaric word for god) is not. Then again Yahweh and the Muslims' god both like the claim themsleves to be the only god(even though they aren't)²,but that doesn't mean that they are the same god,or maybe it does*. Hey, maybe they're brothers or best friends who tolling us.:)

*Both Yahweh and this god(if they exist) are too much alike to be two different gods. Both are know to decieve, order mass killing and lie about being the one and only god.Maybe the Muslims' god is named Yahweh also.Jesus said that the devil(Yahweh) is a liar and a murder from the start,John 8:44 . If this stuff is true;then maybe the gnostic christians(along with sects)were right all along. That yahweh is just a god and probably one of the sons of El Elyon,[²] and that the biblical texts (whatever some, most or all) has been altered,Jeremiah 8:8 .

Ps. There are creation stories,so there are two gods
