[On why God helps her, but not the people in Darfur.]
God does not ignore the problems of other people. He tries to help them, and most of the time He can't get through to them because they either have never heard of Him or reject Him.

So if someone hasn't heard of God, they can't be helped by him? Isn't this the same God who's omniscent and omnipresent and such? Seems to me a little thing like not knowing about him wouldn't be much of a problem. Hell, it'd be great PR to help people who've never heard of him, right? ;)
I think a certain someone needs her meds adjusted.
Anyway, the Mormon concept is that while people are allowed to suffer, those who make them suffer will be judged for it with the people themselves providing testimony. It's kinda like a cosmic sting operation.
In Romans 1:19-21 KJV Paul supposedly says "Because that which may be known of God is manifest in them (unbelievers) for God hath shewed it unto them. For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse: Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened."
And, yet, JoJo contends that "He [God] can't get through to them because they either have never heard of Him or reject Him."
Also, if God is omnipotent, how come he "can't" get through to them?

For all we know, he could be going in through a means we don't know about.
Either way tho, it wasn't right for JoJo to make that statement as it sounds like she has no first-hand experience.
"Presumably, that mental retardation is a great thing, because it allows here to spend all her time praising God."
Silly me, how could I forget.
Good Stuff Happens to them = Being rewarded by the Lord
Bad Stuff Happens to them = Being tested by the Lord
Bad Stuff Happens to other people = the other people are being punished by the Lord for their immoral thoughts
It always works out in their minds.
So... During the flood in South East Asia the Dutch made a collective contribution of several tens of millions to the aid campaigns. But they never got the money and were left to rot becuase they didn't know where The Netherlands are on the world map? Or because they don't know every single inhabitant?
Seriously, why do you need to know someone to be ABLE to get help from him/her? Isn't that all up to the helper?
This would be a clear cut case of who gives a shit of divine proportions.
*I'm wondering, how come God sends people to hell who have never heard of Christianity? Doesn't it seem ridiculous that a god would send millions of people to hell who never even had the chance to belive in him? Thats one of the things that drew me away from Christianity.
The Mormon belief is that God waits until *after* you've had a chance to learn about him before you get judged. If you have to learn in the afterlife, then you learn in the afterlife.
See - not every Christian denomination believes God is so spiteful.
Good thought, Alex W.
God cannot help them because they haven't heard of him, but he can send the non-believers to hell, even if they keep on not hearing about him.
Strange being.
"The gods of the Disc have never bothered much about judging the souls of the dead, and so people only go to hell if that's where they believe, in their deepest heart, that they deserve to go. Which they won't do if they don't know about it. This explains why it is so important to shoot missionaries on sight."

"Those who do not know the law, will not be judged by the law. If those who do not know the law, by nature do what the law requires, then they are a law to themselves"
Sounds to me like if no one ever spoke the word of God to a third-world nation, they would be saved if they had pure hearts and good intentions.
So god either can't or won't help people who don't worship him. In the former case, he's impotent; in the latter, an uncaring tyrant. Or he doesn't exist at all.
Any way you slice it, there is no reason to worship your god.
Confused?
