Freemasonry is not the seemingly noble, innocent and uninvolved group which they appear to be. Appearance can be very deceiving. Satan himself appears as Christ, and his sinister ministers as preachers (2nd Corinthians 11:13-15). Charles Darwin didn't sincerely develop his theories on evolution; but rather, he was a puppet of the Illuminati, a face to put on every child's classroom wall, who was used to promote cleverly devised ideologies which would fuel the evil world of eugenics, genocide, sterilization, abortion, mass-murdering dictators and the death of 100,000,000 innocent human lives. As you have learned, anything can be justified; but only if you're willing to totally disregard the inspired holy Words of God almighty!!!

The Freemasons build and create which makes them feel closer to God. That's it. No, really. That's all there is to it. They started working with stone and mortar, wealth and favour with the ruling classes from working with said stone got them influence which they plied and got involved in politics shaping society, and got a major superiority complex from it which gave them a major boner and inspired secret handshakes and Wife-Swap Wednsday.

They just get off on making things both physical and metaphorical. There's possibly an orgy now and again but otherwise that's really it.

My family is supposedly loosely affiliated with their order. I don't own any US senators or members of Britain's parliament so believe me when I say that's a bit of a crock.

Had to look that one up but so far as I can understand the answer is a tentative yes. There's an element of false modesty involved: building things that many people are benefitted by or appreciative of and leaving small indications of who was responsible but not overtly demanding recognition or tribute for their creation as an attempted parallel for their concept of God. The more serious ones would probably argue that the forethought required for their more ambitious projects i.e. laying political groundwork and the philosophical implications behind them discounts them from seeming immature but that doesn't stop the rest of them from being glorified frat boys. Leaving a permanent structure either physical or philosophical on the world is basically their communion. That and sex. Comes with being smug holier than thou artistes with a moderate to severe superiority complex and/or ties to wealthy families.

Stonework is still a heavily ritualized focus but they consider politics and socioeconomics a similar creative medium. No globe-spanning conspiracies, no vague ultimate goal, barely even inter-group cooperation. While a lot of Masons are very politically active and reach considerable social status they aren't typically looking to supplant governments nor are they exactly bound to support each other in political endeavours. There have been a lot of occasions where Freemasons wind up on opposite sides of civil wars over differences of opinion on how society should function.
