[On a post discussing a Church having a "Koran Burning Day" most of the posters express disgust.]
To be honest, if they burn us flags and bibles then they should not get upset when we burn quarans.

The probability of Muslims burning Bibles is virtually 0. They've got quite a thing about Abrahamic Holy Books.
Tell you what - try burning a few ISIS flags instead. You'll probably get a few Muslims to help you.
@Amadan:
"Tell you what - try burning a few ISIS flags instead. You'll probably get a few Muslims to help you."
Well, no that wouldn't work out.
Some Lebanese tried to burn ISIS flags at an anti-ISIS rally and found themselves arrested. The ISIS flag has Koran verses on it you see and sharia forbids desecrating Koran verses.
While I agree that burning books is childish, if there is going to be an international outrage at what some backwater church in the south does, then maybe someone should burn a few Qurans to give a public lesson on free speech. Rioting is far worse than "dissing" people in my book.

"No one should be burning any flag or book to begin with."
I couldn't possibly disagree more. Why shouldn't we be allowed to burn flags? Books I can understand, but flags?
Flags are nothing more than symbols, and symbols only have meaning that people ascribe to them - they only have power or significance that people allow them to have or believe them to have. Otherwise, flags are just colorful pieces of fabric and nothing more.
I haven't burned an American flag, but I certainly don't have any reverence for a symbol whose "ideals" I can no longer bring myself to believe in (as such, I refuse to salute it or recite the pledge of allegiance, as I have every right to do so).
Basically, the notion that we shouldn't be allowed to desecrate flags or books comes across to me as a tacit admission that ideas and opinions are above criticism.
That said, I find the people holding a "Koran Burning Day" to be just plain revolting excuses for human beings. It's not because they're destroying a "holy book", but because they are doing so out of venomous spite and malicious hatred of an "Other" group. It's the motivation behind it and the message that they intend to express that disgusts me, and not the actual burning of a Koran.
Look, if they buy these books, and are responsible with the fire, who cares? Is it childish? Yes. But we don't arrest internet trolls, and they're as childish as can be.

Interestingly enough, Saddam Hussein had a Koran inked in his own blood. It's under lock and key in some Iraqi mosque, because no one knows what to do with it. It's very existence is about as blasphemous as things can be in Islam, but destroying it would be too. Even though Saddam likely didn't intend it to be, it's a much better "fuck you" to Muslims than Christian fundies will ever manage to pull off.
Actually though, that might be a good way to stay safe while traveling through the middle east. Just get some Koran verses tattooed on vital areas of your body, and remind anyone trying to hurt you that they would also be desecrating verses of the Koran.
No, I'm not being serious. I know enough about religion and religious mobs to know that there is no obstacle that will be allowed to stand in the way of a good, wholesome lynching.
So, basically, you're both three-year-olds?
You don't even respect your country enough to capitalize the abbreviated name of it...

"No one should be burning any flag..."
"The flag, when it is in such condition that it is no longer a fitting emblem for display, should be destroyed in a dignified way, preferably by burning." (US Flag code.)
Yet another one of their "You don't see us getting upset and resorting to violence over things" assertions.
Point here is you'd be equally pissed and consider it insulting and disrespectful.
Point is the Arab world in general has no reason to respect the US flag, the country or the Bible.
Point is you're a fucking hypocrite. I have no respect for the Quran or the Bible but I do understand that believers hold overwhelming respect for them and would be very upset by a public desecration of them, but then again I'm not an asshole who thinks you should work peoples anger up with hate festivals.
@Mister Spak
This guy has a point. People who live in glass houses shouldn't throw stones.
The problem with this argument is that the people burning US flags and bibles aren't necessarily the same people who will be upset if Americans burn qurans. Muslims don’t have a hive mind!
Just realized after that that video, even so old film, has depicted American flag burning for a very long time. So you're kinda used to it and often react with " what the fuck did we (Reagan, Nixon, Etc") do this time?"
That's how long Americas been meddling with many countries. Film Baby!
Confused?
So were we! You can find all of this, and more, on Fundies Say the Darndest Things!
