Quote# 103368

Two radio hosts are worried that same-sex marriage will cause straight men to start cheating on their wives with other men.

Mat Staver and Matt Barber, of the Liberty Council, made the comments on the group’s ‘Faith and Freedom’ radio show.
The pair quoted research suggesting that gay men are more likely to have open relationships, and used it to suggest that it would ‘undercut’ fidelity in straight marriages too.

The pair claimed: “Same sex so-called marriage would undercut the norm of sexual fidelity within marriage. One of the biggest threats poses to marriage overall is that it would probably undercut the norm of sexual fidelity in marriage.

“We know this to be the case, a number of studies have shown that for same-sex homosexual males, monogamy isn’t part of the equation.

“We know that women serve to domesticate men.

“That’s not an opinion, that’s the social science that shows that women ultimately bring men into their role as father, as provider, and protector for the household and they domesticate men and that lends itself toward monogamy.”

Yeah, as a heterosexual man I have started to experience growing gay urges since they legalised same sex marriage. Can't explain it.

“We know this to be the case, a number of studies have shown that for same-sex homosexual males, monogamy isn’t part of the equation.
And those studies are called... what?

Apparently, gay sex is the most awesome thing ever, to the point that anyone who tries it will never want to have straight sex again and will actively attempt to convince othere people to try it. Who'd've thought.

Projecting much?

If you are married to a woman but you want to have sex with men you are not in a heterosexual marriage; you are living a lie.

Sounds like a couple of guys really want to try some man on man action.

So...let me see if I get this straight (pun intended):

Mat and Matt thinks that homosexual marriage will somehow make married heterosexual men less faithful to their wives?

We have a saying in Danish that translates as "The thief is convinced that everyone steals". Seems somehow appropriate.

And "same-sex homosexual males"? As opposed, I suppose, to "opposite-sex homosexual males"?

"That’s not an opinion..." - Yes it is. And a stupid one at that.

"...that’s the social science..." - Science. You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means [/Inigo Montoya].

"And those studies are called... what?"

They're called two words. One that starts with a "B" and one that starts with an "S". Care to guess?

Goomy pls

Maybe they could also cheat on their spouses with women.

But if they did that you would praise them for it.

"Two radio hosts are worried that same-sex marriage will cause straight men to start cheating on their wives with other men.
"
I'm worried that opposite sex marriage will cause gay men to cheat on their husbands with women.

One of the biggest threats poses to marriage overall is...

...heterosexual adultery and subsequent divorce.

Fixed.

So these two loose cannons believe all men are just waiting for the cover of of illegality to be removed and they'll be all over each other like porn stars? Does Mat's and Matt's wives know they have to put chastity belts on these guys? Do they know the opposite of monogamy is not homosexuality?

Man, talk about a waste of oxygen.

As a poly woman, fuck you

"Two radio hosts are worried that same-sex marriage will cause straight men to start cheating on their wives with other men."

But they're not worried that same-sex marriage will cause straight women to start cheating on their husbands with other women?

OHP

Yeah, nothing makes me want to completely shift my sexuality quite like the state recognizing the legitimacy of another sexuality that's existed since before recorded history and of which I've been aware all my life. I mean other men didn't really do it for me before but now that homosexuals are allowed to file for the same paperwork as I am I suddenly find myself drawn to broad shoulders and chest hair. Weird, no?

One of the biggest threats poses to marriage overall is that it would probably undercut the norm of sexual fidelity in marriage.

Wait, when did fidelity become the norm? Last I checked divorce has been high since it was legal and cheating has been going on since before the invention of fire.

Two radio hosts are worried that same-sex marriage will cause straight men to start cheating on their wives with other men.

I'm not. Maybe this comment of yours says more about you than it does about gay marriage.

Evgir Unslaad

So men need domestication? What? You're seriously saying that men can't control themselves enough to stay monogamous in a non-open relationship?

Look, if both members agree that the relationship should be open, it's none of my business. But this is just sexist in both directions.

"Same-sex homosexual males"? Are there males of different sexes? Well, I guess a pre-op female-to-male transsexual, but other than that...

Malingspann: I can answer that one, having been married to one (and attended churches with multiple others). They can't foresee the possibility of a christian woman ever being tempted to cheat on her morally superior, Christlike husband.

9/12/2014 5:20:37 AM

Mike Litoris

Yep, I can't wait until my state legalizes gay marriage, so I can find a nice thick dick to suck, instead of bang my wife.

9/12/2014 5:20:38 AM

Doubting Thomas

They... just don't get homosexuality, do they? If some guy cheats on his wife with another man, then he was gay or bisexual to begin with. And allowing or prohibiting gay marriage is not going to change that. It's not like gay people never existed before gay marriage was allowed or secretly gay husbands never had covert affairs with other men.

9/12/2014 5:25:43 AM

Binky

Uh, the first line of the article doesn't match what they said. They say that since gay men are more likely to cheat [citation needed], this will encourage straight men to cheat because it becomes the norm. They don't say that they'd cheat on their wives with men.

It's not like the quote isn't ignorant enough already, there's no need to make stuff up to make it sound worse.

Maybe we should quote people, instead of quoting other people misquoting them.

The Liberty Council? Is this in any way associated with Liberty University? Also, what is it with fundies using the word "liberty" and "freedom" to mean opposing anybody not like them?

9/12/2014 6:52:47 AM

Thinking Allowed

It's funny that a majority of those who complain about same sex marriage mostly refer to the 2 men and rarely 2 women.

9/12/2014 7:32:14 AM

same-sex marriage will cause straight men to start cheating on their wives with other men.

Guess what? THAT ALREADY HAPPENS.

9/12/2014 8:00:10 AM

Alencon

I don't see how gay marriage, given the minuscule numbers, could possibly make any difference to anything especially heterosexual fidelity.

9/12/2014 8:24:36 AM

Jonathon

I'm a straight man. I'm married to a straight woman. If gay marriage was legalized throughout the land, I would not have sex with a gay man and the reason for that is because I am 1) not gay myself and 2) not the kind of person who would cheat on my spouse.
It's pretty simple, really.
